In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Joe Dowell—the former teen idol who scored a #1 hit in 1961 with his cover of Elvis Presley's "Wooden Heart"—was recording commercial jingles for restaurants, banks, the Boy Scouts of America, charities, and any other paying customers he could find. Jim (James) Mittan's obituary said that he died at the age of 76 on July 27, 2004, at Mercy Hallmar in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after a brief illness. One person wrote in his memorial guestbook, "Everyone remembers Jim Mittan, the Carpet Man. I do, not only as a customer, but as a friend."
